CLASSICAL BALLET - RAD SYLLABUS

The Foundations of Dance Technique

At Gerringong Ballet, Classical Ballet is a central and highly valued part of our studio. As the foundation of most dance genres, ballet builds the essential technique, strength and artistry that support a dancer’s growth in every style. Its rich traditions develop alignment, musicality, creativity and strong performance skills.

We strongly recommend all students undertake ballet alongside their other classes to ensure confident, balanced and technically sound progression.
Our studio is registered and qualified to teach the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, offering examinations from Pre-Primary through to Advanced 1.

TUMBLING/ACROBATICS

Cartwheels, Handstands, Aerials & Flips

Our Tumbling & Acrobatics classes are skills-based sessions designed to help students safely achieve tumbling movements that support and enhance their dance training. While learning forward rolls, cartwheels, handstands, walkovers and more, students also build fundamental physical skills such as strength, balance, coordination and flexibility.

Tumbling is not only fun, it supports overall physical & cognitive development. These classes improve body awareness, problem solving, resilience, focus and confidence, all of which positively influence academic learning and classroom concentration.

Our tumbling teacher is a registered Acrobatic Arts instructor, ensuring safe technique, structured progressions and high-quality training for every student.

CONTEMPORARY & LYRICAL DANCE

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical, and classical ballet.

Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.

Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor.

This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.

TAP

Tap dance was developed in the United States during the nineteenth century, and is popular nowadays in many parts of the world. The name comes from the tapping sound made when the small metal plates on the dancer's shoes touch a hard floor. This lively, rhythmic tapping makes the performer not just a dancer, but also a percussive musician.

PETIT DANCER - PRESCHOOL
PROGRAMME

A 45-minute creative, age-appropriate programme for our tiniest dancers aged 3+ years. Our ‘dance play’ classes use imagination, mime and props to engage little ones while building early posture, coordination and foundational technique. With a blend of Ballet and Jazz, children are introduced to the joy of movement in a nurturing environment. Our Petit Dancers class follows the RAD Dance to Your Own Tune syllabus.

This class also supports important school readiness skills. Research shows that physical development—such as balance, core strength, coordination and crossing the midline—helps children reach key milestones that prepare them for reading, writing and focused learning. Through playful movement, children build the physical foundations that support confidence both in the studio and in the classroom.

HIP HOP BOYS & GIRLS

Hip-hop is a dance style, usually danced to hip-hop music, that evolved from the hip-hop culture. The first dance associated with hip-hop was break dancing.

Hip Hop started in the streets of America on both the East Coast and West Coast to a style of dance that has transcended and become a staple of pop culture. With the advent of the television and the internet especially post-2000 we've seen widespread adoption and consumption of hip-hop culture in the dance world and beyond.
